South Africa produced what Stuart Baxter said would be a “national disaster” for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations hosts, when they beat Egypt 1-0 to knock them out of their own tournament.
After a woeful effort in the group stages – winning just one of their three matches – Bafana Bafana became effervescent against Egypt in their last 16 meeting. They looked more alive than they had all tournament, creating more chances and pressing higher – a completely different approach compared to the drab snoozefests that cost them one-goal defeats against both Ivory Coast and Morocco.
Thembinkosi Lorch scored the only goal of the match, but it wasn’t just the attack that impressed. South Africa’s defenders played their hearts out, too.
One of those defenders who impressed is Sifiso Hlanti. And clearly somebody felt he needs to get his due credit.
One cheeky fan gave Hlanti’s Wiki page a bit of a makeover, changing his bio to read as follows:
Hlanti is best known for pocketing Mohamed Salah in the last 16 clash between Egypt and South Africa in the 2019 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations. It is said Salah will continue to live out his life in Hlanti’s back pocket as he will never be the same again. Potchetinos Spurs are lining up to sign him as they feel that had he been playing in the champions league final, they would have altered history and Salah would have have moved into his new residence of back pocket lane sooner. [sic]
Fans got jokes.
There’s no way of knowing how long this bit of fun-poking might stay on his page. So, here’s a screenshot.
