Cape Town City have signed former Ajax Cape Town striker Tashreeq Morris on a three-year deal.

The move reunites Morris with former teammate and close friend Abbubaker Mobara who moved back to the Mother City after being released by Orlando Pirates.

Morris was himself released by National First division strugglers Ajax and was a target for newly promoted Stellenbosch FC but ultimately opted to join City.

The 25-year-old has already joined the squad for pre-season training.

The signing of Morris brings the number of former Ajax players in the Cape Town City squad to six. Travis Graham‚ Taariq Fielies‚ Thato Mokeke and Riyaad Norodien were already on the books before the arrivals of Mobara and Morris.

Morris has ambitions of playing in Europe but a trial with Ajax Amsterdam in 2016 did not yield a move. The striker’s career has stagnated as he struggled for form and fitness but a move to an ambitious club like City could get him back on the radar.

The bustling forward was also a member of the SA under-23 side at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

Cape Town City finished fourth in last season’s PSL, scoring the most goals in the Premiership playing an attractive and entertaining brand of football, the club also won the MTN8. Morris should get the kind of service that will allow him to make an impact in the final third.

Morris comes ‘home’ to Cape Town City

“Cape Town City is delighted to announce the signing of 25 year old South African striker Tashreeq Morris from NFD side Ajax. Morris signs a 3 year deal with the club, bolstering the strikeforce with Mthembu and Erasmus,” the club tweeted.

Siphelele Mthembu and Chris David netted in a 2-2 friendly draw with Kenyan side Bandari FC in their first preseason fixture.
