The role of women towards the progression and development of the media in the continent should be appreciated and rendered the support it deserves.
This were the sentiments of delegates who participated in a dialogue aimed at enhancing the role of the media in supporting sustainable development in Africa, recently held in Cairo, Egypt.
The debate tackled a range of issues including the role of women in the media.
Fatima Hassan-Abbas, who represents the Nigerian Television Authority in Abuja, believes there’s a need to strengthen support.
“Our situations are similar; and unless we resolve to change it ourselves nobody will change it for us. So, we’ve got a lot to do in terms of creating the environment for women to be empowered. So that they excel and contribute their quota towards the development of their and Africa in general,” says Hassan-Abbas.
