The Vrystaat Arts Festival has earned itself a place as one of the key arts festivals on the African continent.
The event, taking place at the University of the Free State is in its 19th year, offers a range of national and international work .
The colourful, cultural event showcases over 300 art productions including theatre, film, live music performances and literature shows.
Festival Programme manager , Adriaan Meyer, says though the festival still has a deep Afrikaans culture at its core, it has managed to attract art that transcends language.
“We have a large focus on art and interdisciplinary art, so there’s lots of art that doesn’t even use language which transcends and crosses boundaries.,” says Meyer.
Meyer says the festival has also managed to attract the people from other countries.
