Meanwhile, the presiding officers of Parliament, Thandi Modise and Amos Masondo, say the Springboks’ Rugby World Cup win has returned the ripple effect of unity and nation building seen during the 1995 tournament. They say it shows that sport plays an important role in social cohesion and camaraderie.
“The presiding officers of Parliament, on behalf of Parliament, convey their heartfelt congratulations to captain Siya Kolisi, coach Rassie Erasmus and the entire kings of world rugby for such an incredible victory, for such a fierce performance and for such an inspirational feat which cemented South Africa’s position as the power house of world rugby,” says Parliament’s spokesperson, Moloto Mothapo.
