The Springboks have sent a special message home, thanking their fellow South Africans for their unwavering support during the Rugby World Cup tournament.

On Saturday, the boys in green and gold claimed victory in the Rugby World Cup final against England with a demolishing final tally of 32-to-12.

Following the victory, social media exploded with messages of congratulations from all over the country and the world and celebrations continued into the early hours of Sunday morning.

Springbok captain, Siya Kolisi and his team had this message for the country.

“South Africa, we just want to thank you as a team for all your support – we’ve seen all your videos you know all the messages thank you so much South Africa. This is what we can do as a team when we decide on one goal and one dream and we give it our best.”

Meanwhile, the presiding officers of Parliament, Thandi Modise and Amos Masondo, say the Springboks’ Rugby World Cup win has returned the ripple effect of unity and nation building seen during the 1995 tournament.  They say it shows that sport plays an important role in social cohesion and camaraderie.

“The presiding officers of Parliament, on behalf of Parliament, convey their heartfelt congratulations to captain Siya Kolisi, coach Rassie Erasmus and the entire kings of world rugby for such an incredible victory, for such a fierce performance and for such an inspirational feat which cemented South Africa’s position as the power house of world rugby,” says Parliament’s spokesperson, Moloto Mothapo.
