The Film and Publications Board (FPB) says more than 90 arrests were made against distributors of unlicensed content.

The board appeared before Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Communications on Tuesday to present its 2018/2019 financial statements.

The FPB is responsible for among others, regulating the licensing and classification of films, games and certain publications.

One of its most important roles is to protect children from accessing sexually explicit content.

The board’s acting CEO, Maria Motebang says they are working with the police against non-compliance.

Motebang says, “As far as industry compliance is concerned, there are 182 cases that were opened and 91 arrests were made as a result of noncompliance, as well as the raids. We have a partnership with SAPS where we contact these raids, and in the past year 140 000 discs were destroyed.”
