At the end of her speech, Theron said .”It’s going to take some time to unravel the old rules and change the dynamics and right the power structures that shape the world but I believe it’s going to happen and it starts with all the brave women stepping up and speaking out and sometimes risking everything to do the right thing. I want to thank all those women tonight.”

Director James Mangold, who won the Hollywood Director Award for ‘Ford v Ferrari’, also addressed Scorsese’s comments, saying “As fewer and fewer movies make it to the screen, we all start squabbling with each other about who is making better and more important films and I think the reality is we’re all making important films, we just wish there was more real estate for them all to get up on a screen.”
